dos and donts...
It was refreshing to encounter the ideas presented in this novel - the recognition of life energies and how we might use them to benefit the world is timeless and very important. But the novel itself is painful to read. This is no book for those unsettled and made impatient by clumsy language. But for those of us who appreciate the spiritual, alongside fine-tuned language, it might just be worth it to suffer through the linguistic atrocity to lift out the heart and raise it up high.

I like this book.
I like this book. And I hope people who didn't like the book will read this review. There are underlying truths about humanity in the book. It does make you think. If it didn't make you think, then you need to question your own life more. This book is great simply because it asks you to question who you are and what has influenced you to become who you are. And if you truly challenge yourself to answer these questions, chances are, you will find more peace and happiness. If, however, you are looking for a rigid set of guidelines to live by without having to question anything, you probably won't like the book.

Good insight into human behavior
If only for its insight regarding our struggle for energy, the book can help anyone understand human behavior. And accordingly, help show us how eliminating poor behavior and the struggle for energy may help us lead more productive and happier lives.

Not for everyone, but of benifit to some
I enjoyed reading this book. I don't agree with all the ideas in the book, but some things fit situations in my life at this time. I thought the story was interesting and well written. I feel this book is not for everyone although most will enjoy it. I would suggest this book to anyone that needs a little explanation for some of the occurences in their life.

Good start for your spiritual journey
You must read this book with an open mind. You may not agree with everything in the book, but the way the story unfolds is a wonderful way to present the insights.. The lessons and views the author shares in the book will suprice you. You just may find some of the answers for man's sudden decire for a more spiritual life these days. For the skeptics of the new age movement: This book is very much logical if you dare to consider the views the story delivers for just one moment. As a writer, James Redfield will take you on a wonderful adventure....

Reviews and Commentary for Lunatics : A Novel
From Kirkus Reviews , 04/15/96:
Another oddball fantasy from the author of Blackburn (1993), etc.; this time, thirtysomething cuddles up with Moonstruck to revamp The Little Mermaid. In Austin, Texas, widower Jack sits naked in the moonlight in order to summon his new lover, Lily, down from the moon. Understandably, the police are none too impressed, so Jack must phone from jail for help. His friends are all former lovers: sexy Halle, who enjoys a series of casual relationships with men; Katy, smart, self-assured in all things but her marriage to the nerdish Stephen; and beautiful Carolyn, involved with the handsome and much younger Artie. All agree that Jack needs help- -under every full moon, he strips off and waits for Lily--so they take him to Halle's country cabin, where Jack can moonbathe with impunity. At times they catch glimpses of Lily, whose claim to be a goddess--clawed feet, wings, strange powers, and all--might
well be justified. Jack's quite content as long as he has Lily every month, but her influence rubs off on the others, too, throwing their personal lives into turmoil. Eventually, from visiting Jack so often, Lily's immortality is compromised; she breaks off the affair, vowing never to return. Will true love triumph? Only Jack's friends, all acting in concert, might possibly call Lily back. Light, eccentric, thoughtful, and endearing: Planet Denton's a weird place but well worth a visit. -- Copyright ©1996, Kirkus Associates,

Synopsis:
If one crossed Splash with Moonstruck, then threw in a dash of A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy, the result might be a book as whimsical as Lunatics. Called "the perfect summer read" by The Washington Post, Lunatics holds a mirror to love, friendship, and the magic of the everyday. BDD ONLINE feature. --This text refers to the paperback (reprint) edition of this title.
Synopsis:
Each month, when the moon is full, Jack strips naked and waits in the moonlight for his lover. He has to--Lily can only find him by the light of the moon. (It's one of those things about being a moon goddess.) Now, if he can only get his friends--and the Austin police--to unserstand why he's explosing himself indecently. . . . Lunatics is a delightful, sexy, witty and moving romp through the muddy, mucky wildernness known as love.
From the Publisher :
Jack has been widowed for close to a year, and his behavior has his friends worried. Arrested for public indecency, Jack insists that he was meeting a moon goddess of desire named Lily. Furthermore, he claims that she can only find him if he waits outside, naked under a full moon. To prevent further troubles with the law, Jack's friends begin taking him to a cabin in the woods each full moon. But one at a time, they are each touched by Lily and forced to deal with their desires before they can truly know their hearts. --This text refers to the paperback (reprint) edition of this title.
