MO' MUSIC MUSTS!

November '97

By Chris Mosser

Don't miss these or you'll be Sorry!!

PEGGY ZARSE'S SWEET 16 PARTY
Steamboat/Saturday November 1

Come on out and shake off that Halloween hangover as we (well, minus me, as I have a previous engagement...drat) celebrate our lovely First Lady of Austin Rock with a show packed with bands she's helped bring to Austin's attention: Breedlove, Sunflower, and Johnny Goudie will be there, among others. Hard to believe KLBJ gave Peg a job at age 10, but apparently it's true.

THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE
Frank Erwin Center/Sunday November 2

TAFKAP's Jam Of The Year is proving to be just that in city after city, and the good Lord knows I wouldn't send you to an FEC show unless it was certain to be a gas. The Artist's post show shows have become damn close to a given, so keep your ears peeled for the after party. Get your tickets NOW and leave your smokes in the car.

Here's some pictures of the Show <<<

RECKLESS KELLY/MORNINGWOOD
Liberty Lunch/Friday November 14

I extolled the virtues of Reckless Kelly's impeccable debut CD Millican last month, so I'll resist the temptation now. They've been playing every damn night since they got back to town, but if you'd like to see them on a slightly bigger stage than the one at Lucy's, this is the show for you. Another plus is the presence of Austin's other buzz band of the moment, the lovely ladies of Morningwood.

PIST.ON
Backroom/Saturday November 15

If you're like me, the only way that Pist.on's set at the Southern Comfort Auditorium Shores gig could've been better would be if it had been LOUDER. Well, believe me, brother, this one will be LOUDER. Fueled by the success of the "Grey Flap" single and their very cool Number One, Pist.on (with the period - screw the label) have become one of Texas' favorite NYC ambassadors. My homies in Pearse have an excellent opening gig on their hands.

PANTERA
Austin Music Hall/Sunday November 30

Good Texas boys through and through, Pantera don't need no stinking new album to tour (I don't count that live thing, which is more crowd than crunch). This is for the people, man. Their last AMH show in '96 remains one of the most brutal affairs I have seen in that particular venue, and the meet & greet afterward one of the most blurry. Pantera is what metal should be, and perhaps may be someday. Come rip with Yetti & me if you got any yarbles.
