About Karina

"Who the heck is this...girlie to tell me what I should pay for my movie-going experience?" It's a question I never hear because, frankly, I haven't been able to check my email at home for ages. But if I were to hear it, I would say something like, "Hey, stop talking about me like I'm not here." And then not answer the question.

But for you, you folks who take the time to read little bio bits like this, I'll just tell you. I'm a late 20's educated non-slacker female who sees a lot of, reads a lot about, and has even worked on a couple of movies. I have a theatre background, a mouldering English degree, and a day job that saps my soul. I also grew up thinking of movies as a luxury, and though NOW I can go whenever I wish, I still tend to rate by bang for my buck.

You should know that I deem most movies worth seeing, if not for Art then for Whizbang. It has to be a pretty terrible movie for me to tell you to avoid it, and extra skanky indeed if I can't find SOMETHING nice to say about it. Count it as a bad sign if I actually miss it.

So while say, Silence of the Lambs and Grease 2 are, without question, movies of differing tastes and merit, they would both get the same rating in my book (Full Price Feature). Why? Because an informed person going to see either film will get their money's worth for what they seek. Grease 2 viewers will not get shattering nuance of character, and Lambs patrons will not get delightful Rock a Hula Luau. It depends what you are looking for. I look for entertainment value.

A little more about ME before you go - I am female, but I like action, drama, suspense, & horror as much as the next guy. I enjoyed Sense and Sensibility more than Beavis and Butthead, sure, but I don't squeal "GROSS!" when an alien is being dissected. Those people will receive open scorn in this forum. I like a good weeper like How to Make an American Quilt, and some really badass Jackie Chan/John Woo collaboration would make me tingle!

So you can get to know me a little better, I will list in no order a few of my favorite movies, actors, etc, so you can get a sense of my taste (and to draw web hits to my page!). Aliens, Grease 2, Silence of the Lambs, Dead Again, The Princess Bride, This is Spinal Tap, Singing in the Rain, The Shawshank Redemption, Dave, The Hudsucker Proxy, Oscar (give it a chance!), Young Frankenstein, Little Shop of Horrors (1985), Casual Sex?, Bob Roberts, The Wiz, Running on Empty, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, Much Ado About Nothing, Grosse Pointe Blank, Fantasia, 12 Monkeys....ah jeez I just love movies, you know? But I have lots I want to see.

Great actors (not just hunks and babes): John Cusack, Tim Robbins, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Janeane Garafalo, Sigourney Weaver, Kevin Kline, Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Emma Thompson, River Phoenix, Joan Cusack, Morgan Freeman, Mel Gibson...oh how can I choose?

Anyway, I hope these reviews guide you, mold you, or at least entertain you - and please hire me!
